5 Easy Ways to Save Money When Planning Your Outdoor Wedding

With the summer wedding season fast approaching and many couples looking for ways to cut back on the cost of their nuptials, outdoor weddings are enjoying resurgence in popularity.  Not only does an outdoor event drastically reduce the amount spent on church and reception hall rental, but it also opens up a multitude of other cost cutting opportunities.  With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of five easy ways to save money when planning your outdoor wedding.

1. Choose a month other than June.  June is by far the most popular month for weddings, and with good reason; the weather is usually beautiful.  But June isn’t the only calendar month with nice weather, and by choosing an earlier spring date or a fall date, you can save a lot of money with various vendors.  Many photographers, caterers, and rental suppliers will charge a premium for weddings during the busy month of June, simply because demand is so high.  If the date will work for you and your fiancé, consider an April or October wedding instead.

2. Consider a morning wedding.  Most weddings are held in the afternoon or evening, but there’s no reason you can’t have a wedding in the morning.  Morning weddings are often a great way to cut back on expenses, for several reasons.  First, you can serve breakfast instead of dinner.  This eliminates the need to worry about expensive appetizers and alcoholic beverages.  Generally speaking, breakfast foods are less expensive anyway.  Furthermore, you may be able to negotiate some discounts with your service providers, since morning weddings aren’t that common, and you may also have an easier time booking the providers you want.

3. Choose a low cost outdoor venue like a friend or family member’s backyard.  While it’s true that outdoor weddings are generally less expensive than indoor events, some outdoor venues can be pricey to rent.  For example, if you were hoping for a very popular state park with a scenic overlook, don’t expect it to come cheap.  By holding your event in a smaller or less formal outdoor space, not only can you save a lot of money on the location, but it can also afford you more flexibility with decorating.

4. Plant some flowers!  Assuming you have chosen to hold the wedding in a space where you have some flexibility and control, consider planting some flowers a few months before the event to cut back on the florist’s expense.  Planting flowers is also a great way to ensure that you’ll have exactly the variety of colors and textures you want when your big day arrives.

5. Buy decorations that can be used in your new home after the wedding is over.  Outdoor weddings are often decorated with items that can be reused later in the couple’s new yard.  For example, consider a large wedding arbor or pergola as the backdrop for your photos or the focal point where you’ll recite your vows.  Garden trellises can also make a nice backdrop, as can large urns of flowers or planter boxes.  If you have the ability to set these items in place a month or two in advance, go ahead and do so and plant some climbing flowers and vines like morning glory or nasturtium that will grow up the structures before your event.  When the wedding is over, the items can be used to landscape your new home’s yard, and over the years, they will hold a very special sentimental value to you and your spouse.

These are just a few of many ways you can save money on outdoor wedding planning.  With a little creativity and thinking outside the box, you can plan a beautiful and memorable wedding without breaking the bank.

Unique Outdoor Wedding Ideas

A garden wedding is one of the most naturally beautiful weddings a bride can plan. It is incredible versatile and can be a casual khaki and sport coat wedding to a black tie event. With a garden wedding, there is actually less decorating to do with all the gorgeous nature all ready surrounding you.

For most climates, a garden wedding is a late spring or summertime affair, but even early fall with the changing foliage and the warm days are good for an outside wedding. If you are lucky, your parents have a stunning backyard where this wedding can be held, but if you don’t have a garden in the family, there are public and private gardens that host weddings.

If you don’t have a gazebo already stationed in your garden, one can be rented and make for a picturesque ceremony site decorated with flowers and light fabric. A tent is another good rental investment. Depending on where you live, Mother Nature isn’t always reliable for good weather, so it is best to have a plan if you live in an area where rainfall is frequent.

You probably won’t need too much in the way of flowers for your ceremony, but for table at the reception, if the garden is your own, pick some flowers from it to create your centerpieces. If you feel there are enough flowers all around, have some hurricane lamps with pillar candles for centerpieces. The lamp will keep the flame from going out if there is a breeze.

As the reception wears on, the sun will go down. Chinese lanterns are a decorative and affordable way to light your space. If you have chosen to have an outdoor reception in the fall, look into renting some outdoor heaters. For a summer wedding, have some baskets of bug repellent towels for your guests. Both of these details will keep you and your guests comfortable.

The only real worry you have to have for a garden wedding is the weather, so make sure you have some back up arrangements!

Outdoor Wedding Ideas

Outdoor weddings are all in vogue, especially when it comes to informal weddings.  There is so much beautiful countryside in the United Kingdom that makes it the ideal backdrop for weddings, wedding receptions and photographs.  If you are planning a wedding and want to have it outdoors, take the following outdoor wedding tips:

Try to plan with the weather

You can never really tell about the weather when it comes to your big day.  Most weddings are planned well in advance and there is no guessing as to how the weather will be for the big day.  You can do your best to plan for the weather by choosing months when it is most likely to be pleasant.  You should also always have an alternate plan for indoors in case it does decide to rain on your wedding day.

Rent canopy tents

Canopy tents can be rented and erected in gardens for the ideal outdoor country wedding.  These canopy tents even offer full enclosure if it does decide to rain.  If you are planning an outdoor wedding, consider a garden close to home or in the countryside where you can erect such a tent.  If it is a nice day and evening, the guests can mill around outside as well as enjoy their dinner or cocktails in the tents.  Choose vendors that will put up these tents in case of rain.

Consider a garden ceremony

There are many venues across the UK that offer a garden ceremony.  Nothing can be quite as nice as saying your vows in the middle of an English garden.  You will have to arrange this with the official who performs the ceremony, but this is an ideal way to start your married life – amid the fresh blooms of nature.  Again, be sure the vendor will have an alternate plan for the weather.

Look into non-traditional settings

If you see a pretty courtyard or setting where you would like to hold your wedding, you can approach the owner and ask them if it would be okay to have your wedding in this place.  Many property owners will be only too glad to allow you to lease part of the property for your big day in exchange for financial compensation.  If there is an outdoor place that you find charming, this may be the ideal spot to start your life as husband and wife.

Use lantern lighting

If permitted, use lantern lighting instead of traditional lighting for the evening.  This can give a cosy glow to the entire event and make it even more like an old fashioned country wedding.

When planning outdoor wedding ideas, the sky is literally the limit.  But do remember that you have to have plans just in case the weather does not cooperate with you on your wedding day.

Outdoor Wedding Ideas You May Need To Consider

There is no need to search in further for more outdoor wedding ideas; I’ve got them right here. This is a day you have often dreamt of. You will want to have a wonderfully magical, affordable, and memorable day. When choosing a wedding location you can pick just about anywhere you can think of, but outdoor weddings just have something special and magical about them.

The biggest concern you will have with an outdoor wedding is the weather. A wedding held in the middle of summer will indeed be very hot. You will need to think of ways to keep your wedding guests from getting over heated. Cold ice water is a great way to keep cool and hydrated. You may want to consider passing out little fans with the bride and grooms name on them.

You will have a totally different problem if you have your outdoor wedding in the middle of winter. You will be faced with the problem of keeping people warm. Reminding guest to bring more clothing and jackets may be a great idea. Handing out gloves as the guest arrive could be a good idea as well.

I can not stress this fact enough, always and I do mean always, have a back up plan when having an outdoor wedding. No one can control the weather and that includes a bride. The best idea is to have a back up indoor location in case of rain. Usually people choose to have an indoor reception if the wedding is outdoors, and this serves as the back up location in case of bad weather.

Now for some decorating tips for outside weddings, I personally think less is more. If you have a beautiful location picked out for the wedding ceremony there really is not much you should not. If you add too much then you will subtract from the natural beauty. A few strategically placed flower arrangements and chairs for your guest.

If you have a beach wedding ceremony you may want to consider having a sound system, because the roaring waves may drown out your voices. You may want to visit the location a day before the wedding to make sure that there is no debris or trash lying all over the ground.

Some people may choose to have the reception as well as the wedding outside. If you decide to do this you will want to rethink certain menu items, such as any type of food containing mayonnaise may be a bad idea in the summer heat. Candles with bug repellent in them are a good way to keep flies from getting into the food.

These are just a few suggestions for you to consider. This is your big day and the final decision is yours. The best tips I can give you is to make this day about you and the one you love. This is the beginning of your life together and this day should be happily remembered.

How to Plan an Outdoor Wedding – Ideas, Tips, and Advice

Outdoor weddings are romantic and scenic, but there’s a lot that can go wrong. Here’s your guide to planning a flummox-free, al fresco wedding.

Outdoor Weddings – Things to Consider:

Who will officiate? Some officiants will only perform ceremonies within a house of worship, so you’ll need to check with yours in advance before planning your ceremony outside.

Inform your guests – Guests need to know they’re attending an outdoor wedding so they can dress appropriately. It’s also a good idea to send weather information to out-of-town guests who may not be familiar with the climate.

Be prepared - Combat potential outdoor issues by having the following items on hand:

Bug spray
Water bottles
Umbrellas
Paper fans
Sunscreen
Cell phone
Tissues/paper towels

Securing your Outdoor Wedding Location

For an outdoor wedding, the draw is the setting, so finding the right spot and coordinating the event around it is the most important task on your to-do list. Your setting options are as limitless as the great outdoors itself. But before getting your heart set on a specific spot, these are some key questions you’ll need to ask:

Is There Privacy? – keep in mind that if your location is a public space – or even near a public place (like a street or sidewalk), you may have to contend with onlookers. Try to reserve your space in a secluded spot to prevent unwanted guests or distractions.

What’s The Backup Plan? – obviously you’ll need a plan in case of inclement weather. If your location doesn’t have indoor facilities to accommodate your event should the skies open, you’ll need to rent a tent.

Can You Hear? – will guests have to compete with roaring waves, gusting winds, honking cars, or screaming children to hear your vows? You may need to rent a sound system and lavalier mics for the officiant and yourselves. Your band or DJ should be able to provide this for you.

Get even more advice on finding unique and scenic settings for outdoor weddings.

All in the Details – Ideas for Outdoor Weddings

Décor Elements

Let the setting speak for itself – don’t compete with Mother Nature; rather, subtly enhance your background – whether a sandy beach, blooming garden, or thick forest – with a complementary color palette and décor elements.
Natural elements – depending on your setting, natural items like shells, pinecones, berries, vines, leaves, and grasses provide great décor inspiration.

Flowers

Blooms – an outdoor wedding calls for flowers that can brave all sorts of weather. Look for sturdier blooms like mums, alstromeria, calla lilies and sunflowers.
Style – keep your containers and arrangements natural looking, as an intricately designed, elaborate pedestal centerpiece in a tall candelabra just doesn’t fit. Instead, use loose arrangements in urns, wooden boxes, crates, or pails.

Menu

Keep it simple – even an elegant outdoor wedding calls for simpler fare that can withstand varied temperatures, so avoid items like mayonnaise or dishes which must be served cold. If yours is a casual affair, consider a traditional outdoor barbeque.
Keep guests refreshed – especially if your outdoor wedding will take place in a warm environment. Have plenty of ice and water, along with teas or lemonades. Alcoholic beverages like sangria, mojitos, or mint juleps will also keep your guests refreshed.

Cake

Make it last – wedding cakes can melt outside. Opt for fondant icing over buttercream, which doesn’t keep well in heat or humidity. Stay away from mousse and ice cream cakes.

Attire

Dare to go casual – outdoor settings allow for breezy fabrics and shorter hemlines
Do elegance right – you can still plan a formal dress code, just consider what’s best suited for sun, sand, or grass. Lace and organza are good outdoor fabric options.
For the Girls

- Silhouettes – you may want to forego the giant ball gown skirt. Instead, stick to a romantic empire or a-line. (same goes for your bridesmaids)

- Hemlines – Keep your hemline clean from the grass or dirt. Consider going knee- or tea-length. Or raise a floor-length gown it to the ankles or at least a half inch higher than you would for an indoor wedding. Avoid a train.

- Shoes – Opt for a wide, flat heal, as stilettos may sink into the ground.

For the guys -

- Unbuttoned affair – consider losing the tux and dressing the guys in khakis and sport jackets or crisp oxfords.

- Neat in back – if they do wear a tux, get a vest with a full back – which will look better when their coats are off.
