Hardly a day seems to pass by nowadays without some emissary and entourage from a well-heeled location somewhere in the west jetting off to some third world country and returning days later having effectively bought themselves a shining bright new baby. These actions in themselves has in a rather brutal way highlighted one of the great iniquities of modern life

It is hard not to view these incidents as just this year’s fashion statement on behalf of the rich and famous.

Last year it was “let’s all campaign against the brutality of hunting animals for their fur” and this year it’s a case of lets take our obscene amounts of money and go and buy a baby from Africa.

There are several issues on different levels here and on one hand we have to accept that it is every child’s right to live in a happy, stable and loving family unit where possible, a right that is sadly all too lacking for about 95 percent of the worlds children. On the other hand you have to accept that in some cases money isn’t necessarily the Universal Panacea for the World ills that we sometimes believe it to be.

More often than not there is an upsurge in this sort of activity right after some natural disaster of almost biblical proportions has wiped out either entire coastlines or communities built out of brick living on some geophysical fault line somewhere have suffered a massive earthquake.

In itself there is nothing wrong with this supposed outpouring of communal generosity but sometimes you have to try and view these activities from the other side to obtain a better rounded picture of what is exactly the best course of action to take here.

Adoption experts say the best thing people can do is to donate money to causes that directly help the children. They say it’s wrong to take a traumatized child away from the environment that they have grown up in. “Adoptions, especially inter-country ones, are inappropriate during the emergency phase as children are better placed being cared for by their wider families and the communities they know,” said the charity Save the Children in a statement released Jan. 6, 2005. International Adoption needs to be well planned “The last thing they need to do is be rushed away to some foreign land,” said Cory Barron of Children’s Hope International, an American adoption agency. “We have to think of the child first.”

Perhaps that is the problem with so many designer International Adoptions nowadays the parties involved don’t necessarily think of the interests of the child first rather a case of satisfying the maternal longings of people who should know better and most cases don’t.

Perhaps now would be a good time to start to implement and effect that change.

Wedding invitation trends are always very interesting to think about because they reflect several different fashion trends in other aspects of weddings such as bridal wear, wedding venues, and the preference of traditional or contemporary weddings. As the New Year begins, there are many new and different themes that are coming into focus. Also, there are several exciting wedding invitation trends that you might want to take part in. Incorporating the Seasons

First of all, many people are really trying to incorporate the seasons into their wedding invitation design. In the past this concept has not been overly popular. Other than for some fall weddings which would incorporate reds and oranges in their color schemes. However, this practice is now becoming more and more popular because many people are relying on the season in which their wedding takes place to really give them a good start for the theme of their entire celebration. Swimming allows you to work many muscle groups, burn a lot of calories, increase flexibility and cardio vascular abilities (which you will need down the way for labor) and strengthen back muscles.

If you have access to an indoor pool at a fitness club or workout facility, then swimming is an exercise in which you can engage in year-round. Once you have found a pool you will need to find a comfortable and well fitting maternity swimsuit as your pre-pregnancy swimsuit will only last you a few weeks into your pregnancy. It is not recommended that you try to squeeze into your non-maternity swimsuit as it can constrict developing milk ducts in your breasts and put unsafe restrictions on your expanding belly. Pregnancy is not a time to look for minimalizing styles that suck in your belly or constrict your bust, instead you need a suit made to stretch and expand where you need it to for the coming months of pregnancy.

Depending on the time of year you are in the market for a maternity swimsuit, your style preferences may vary. Spring and Summer months offer the biggest selection in maternity swimsuits in both your local maternity boutiques and chain stores as well as online maternity stores. Every style from babydolls, strapless minis to tankinis and even bikinis are available in multiple colors and prints for maternity swimwear. Typically you will find more colorful patterns and beachy colors to choose from during the warmer months. The lively bright colors go great with summer tans and are popular for beach wear and at your local summer pool. In the cooler months many maternity stores do not carry maternity swimwear, so your best bet may be doing a search online to find a decent selection. If you do purchase your suit online, you should check out the online store’s return policy on swimwear as some do not allow any returns of swimwear or returns can only be made for store credit or exchange.

The Texture Heart is also a very stretchy suit with a textured fabric and 20% lycra which will fit most women from beginning to end of their pregnancy.

When you are shopping for your maternity swimwear remember to err on the larger size if you are early into your pregnancy and expecting to wear the suits for at least several months. Set aside your pre-pregnancy mindset for swimsuit shopping where your goal is to look as skinny as possible and minimize your belly. When pregnant you will not be losing weight in the near future or getting less curvy, instead your goal for a good swimsuit fit should be one that will comfortably expand with you and hopefully last you for the duration of your pregnancy or your intended swim season. Of course it should be a style that you like and provides the right amount of bust support, particularly if you are looking at lap swimming.

If you plan to continue swimming after you have your baby and intend on nursing your baby, you may consider a nursing swimsuit. There are a number of brands that make very stylish nursing swimwear including Belabumbum and Prego Maternity. Buying a swimsuit that can be worn both during and after your pregnancy is an excellent way to extend your investment and use of your suit without having to purchase several non-pregnancy sizes of swimsuits on your way back to your pre-pregnancy shape. It also gives you the option of easily nursing your baby at a moment’s notice while at the beach or pool and flatteringly disguising a postpartum belly.

So regardless of the season, swimming is a great exercise to take part in while you are pregnant. Use your online resources to find the best suit for your body and look for one that allows you room to grow!

Maternity Clothes for Any Time of the Year

Shopping for clothes takes on a whole new level of complexity when you are pregnant. Not only do you have to guess ahead to how big all parts of your body will be in the months ahead, but you need to plan for different seasons as well. It’s one thing when you buy a pretty dress for summer and know you can wear it for the next few years but when you are maternity clothes shopping, your window of wearing a new item may only for a couple of months unless you know for sure you are going to have many children in the coming years. Also, maternity clothes can receive a lot more abuse than your average top or dress as you are continuing to stretch it out more each day you wear it with an increasingly bigger belly.  Chances are, there may not be a lot of clothes left in your wardrobe by the time you have your baby that you even want to recycle for another pregnancy several years down the road. With this in mind, you may want to target some good basic maternity clothes that will carry you across several seasons to maximize your purchases. Here are a few suggestions:

Any good American girl needs a good pair of jeans. If you are newly pregnant, you may want to postpone this purchase with a BellaBand that will allow your pre-pregnancy pants and shorts to fit a bit longer by unbuttoning the top button and even unzipping partway as the BellaBand fits around your hips and tummy and will hold the pants in place without anyone knowing your secret. The BellaBand can also be worn on pregnancy pants that are bit big and need more support – this is particularly useful after you have your baby when you are not quite ready to squeeze into your pregnancy jeans, but don’t want to show off a postpartum belly or have your maternity jeans fall off.

When you are ready to buy maternity jeans and maternity pants, buy a little bigger than would fit you at the moment. You will be surprised how much bigger your belly and even hips will get in the coming months. A jean or pant that fits perfectly at 4 months of pregnancy will probably be on the tight side in another month or two down the road. Also, look for a very comfortable fit across the belly. There are so many belly styles to choose from in maternity pants today, some that fit under the belly, some over and some across. When you try on your maternity jeans or pants, try to sit down and get up several times. Lean over and pick up something and try jogging in place. These are the movements that will tell you the true comfort level of the jean and how it fits around the belly. Some lowrise maternity jeans look great on when you first pull them up, but after bending over a few times you realize they may not stay up so well and wearing a belt is not an option. Also, the bigger your belly is, the more likely a super low rise jean or pant will slide down if the belly support is not sufficient.

Tanks and tops that have built in nursing bra support with nursing access are extremely useful for pregnancy and beyond. Not only are these types of tops nice and cool to wear for the hotter months, they can be layered effectively in the fall and winter months and worn after the baby for nursing. The tip to buying fitted tanks during pregnancy, is to go a little bigger or looser than normal if you are buying early on in your pregnancy. Not only will your belly get bigger in the coming months, your bust will continue to grow and your rib cage will expand. After you have your baby and your milk comes in, you will probably achieve another cup size of growth if you plan to nurse. Although as your milk supply settles in after 6 weeks or so, your bust size should go down a bit, but your will still be bigger than pre-pregnancy until your baby is weaned.  Bravado, the nursing bra brand, has come out with a Nursing Bra Tank with very good built in bust support and easy to access strap buttons for pull down nursing access. The cotton material is very stretchy and even comes in a super soft organic blend. This bra tank can easily be worn through the first two trimesters of pregnancy due to the stretchy material and then again after the baby is born for postpartum wear and nursing clothes.

In general when shopping for maternity tops, look for styles that are extra long and have plenty of belly coverage as well as stretch. There is nothing that is more annoying than having a belly skimming maternity top when you are 8 months pregnant and when you are not in the mood to show off your belly to the world – particularly if this time happens to be during the colder months! Also, a top that is long enough can be worn after the baby postpartum until you slim down. After all, there probably isn’t a woman in the world who wants to show off a postpartum belly in the weeks or even months following the birth of their child!

Maternity tops that can double for nursing tops after the baby are always a good investment. Cross over styles are easy to wear and usually very flattering for both before and after the baby and have easy nursing access. Look for styles with ¾ sleeves that can be worn comfortably anytime of the year and dressed up or down.

Styles that are versatile for both maternity and postpartum as well as those that are made for all seasons will get you the most wear out of your maternity clothing investment. Make sure that you actually like the styles that you buy and that they are comfortable against your skin since we all know that the clothing we reach for the most in our closet are those that we like the best and feel the most comfortable on, particularly when we are pregnant!
